Women's Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1999 by Hon. Justice Fati Lami Abubakar CON, LLD. The acronym of WRAPA denotes the one or two-piece cloth worn by Nigerian women irrespective of age, tribe or religion thereby underscoring the near national coverage of the organization. It is a membership organization open to men, women and youth, with over 15,000 registered members. Its main area of impact is increased access to justice for women across all three legal systems in Nigeria; Common law, Customary and Shari’a laws. The organization operates a multi-dimensional approach to the realization of women’s human and socio-economic rights. It draws its funding from membership fees, grants, in kind donations, strategic partnerships and networking. WRAPA has an active presence in 22 of the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
