Obafemi Awolowo University is located in the city of Ile-Ife. The university used to be called University of Ife before the name change to honor Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Premier of Western Nigeria. The university is a beautiful place to be. There are dozens of interesting places to visit. It has the botanical gardens, a zoo, a pit theater, an amphitheatre, a religious zone, a commercial farm, a research and teaching farm, a museum of natural history, student hostel, a junior staff quarters, a senior staff quarters, a sports center, a banking area, New Buka, New market, a teaching hospital etc. to cut a personality of quasi self sustaining city.

The University was among the first in the country. It has a beautiful landscape and nice architecture. It has canteens, grocery shops and a central market in addition to places of worship. Power supply is good and there's a beautiful sports field. Proximity to banks and a fairly good transport system add to the appeal. There's a thriving student population that includes those pursuing undergraduate and graduate programs as well as numerous affiliate degrees. The academic departments of the university house quite a number of disciplines including the natural sciences, health sciences, technology, business,arts, law and the social sciences.
