Our Work in Africa: 52 million primary to secondary age girls are still out of school across Africa. Inclusivity is a major challenge across the continent despite progress in several countries. Societal gender norms discouraging girls from attending school, political agendas and religious ideologies are major factors causing their absence from school, ultimately contribute to the cycle of poverty. Afro Girls is committed to ending the cycle of poverty in Africa by empowering African girls through education. We inspire our girls to be responsible leaders, innovators and changemakers who use their influence to make a difference for their communities. Our Work in America: Our Work in America: Despite the high achievements and major accomplishments of Black women around the world, Black girls in America still face significant barriers to quality education. Barriers like stereotypes, systemic racism and adultification, adversely impact the experiences that Black girls unfairly endure simply because of the color of their skin. We're committed to positively impacting the narrative of Black girls in America through education initiatives. We focus on creating enriching programming, safe spaces for girls to speak up for themsleves, and positive representations in the media and everyday life. In both regions, we also explore building skills in topics such as leadership, service, teamwork, positive and realistic representation, literacy, financial literacy, social entrepreneurship, media, healthy living and hygiene, WASH and STEAM. We envision a world where Black girls from all socio-economic backgrounds and cultures believe in themselves, have access to quality education and fiercely pursue opportunities that allow them to fulfill their limitless potential. Our work, though customized to cater to the girls in the regions that we serve, reflect our vision.
