The Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) is one of the centres of excellence which make up the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). IPS is a postgraduate institution of international standard which has evolved under a culture of excellence, global vision and professionalism to meet the ever-growing needs of the technology-driven oil and gas industry. The establishment of CPG in 2011 was rooted in the need to meet the geoscience skills needs of the petroleum sector to satisfy the local and regional content requirements and beyond through total commitment to excellence in: * Academic and professional training * Research and innovation * Continuing education and capacity building OBJECTIVE The objective of this programme is to produce competent and industry-ready geoscience graduates that will be fully prepared to work in the oil and gas industry at local and international levels. On completion of this programme, the graduates will among other skills be able to: * Evaluate and manage oil and gas fields. * Effectively participate in the design and operation of onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities. * Design and supervise the drilling of exploration and development wells. * Adapt to use of modern techniques in seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation. * Participate effectively in multi-disciplinary oil and gas field review and field development. * Effectively carry out multi-disciplinary research and drive it to innovation in the oil and gas industry. Graduates are equipped into their overall career development objectives, and will be the best training available. MISSION The Centre for Petroleum Geosciences is set up to provide high quality education in the geosciences to prepare graduates for successful and responsible professional careers for sustainable development and ensure the development of local content and capacity in the oil and gas industry.
