KineticBox is a young engineering startup that intends to provide innovative solutions to the long-standing vaccine cold-chain issues in Nigeria. Currently, the company is trying to develop a vaccine cooler box device. The device aims to solve/lessen the impact the crippled cold chain system has on Immunization coverage in rural Nigeria. The main areas it tries to tackle is the inadequate temperature control and temperature monitoring. In Eastern Nigeria, a study found 42% of yellow fever vaccines available in the private sector had been compromised by freeze damages due to poor temperature monitoring. The device would keep the required vaccine temperature for a long time before it needs to be recharged with a source of heat. Gathering information about cold storage units in real time allows researchers, doctors, and product manufacturers to ensure that temperature control violations do not damage vaccine efficacy. Also because Healthcare supply chains can involve up to 14 parties, The device would also provide wireless temperature and humidity monitoring provides real-time, location-aware tracking of cold chain products during movement. Also, if the device stops working properly, it transmits data remotely to a service team so they can fix it before vaccines are at risk of spoiling. Nigeria and many other developing countries are struggling to maintain cold storage temperatures for vaccines, also, In Nigeria, the average time to repair a fridge at the lower government area (LGA) level ranged from two months to two years. Furthermore, excursions – extended deviations from the safe 2 – 8 °C range – are failing to be detected and resolved, even accounting for deviations in monitoring practice. So, this device would greatly improve simply the cold chain logistics by tackling these issues thereby saving millions of children which is of great concern to us
