The Abia State University Students Bar Council is an academic/professional body of law students in Abia State University. The Association is modeled after the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), seeks to uphold integrity and the highest standard of professional conduct. AIMS/OBJECTIVES Thee aim of the body is to develop law students towards the path of professional excellence through moot and mock trial competitions, legal debates, court visitation and attachment, paralegal services, mentorship sessions, legal research, internship programs, seminars and lectures. STRUCTURE The ABSU Students Bar council is comprised of over 500 members who have successfully passed the official screening test conducted by the body and have paid the requisite practicing fees. The membership of the body is open to only law students from the 200 level to the 500 level in the faculty of law. The body in pursuit of its aims and objective has six registered chambers under it through which it conducts its activities. These chambers are; Prof. U.O Umozurike Chamber, Prof. Ernest Ojukwu Chamber, Justice Niki Tobi Chamber, Chief Gani Fanwehinmi Chamber, Lord Denning Chamber and Justice Oputa Chamber. Membership of these chambers is open to all law students in the faculty of law. These chambers serve as platforms where students are nurtured to appreciate the theoretical aspect of law as taught by the Law lecturers by applying it to practice. The practical application of law aspect involves first imbibing in the students the spirit of legal advocacy, organizing academic discussions, debates, moot/mock trial competitions etc.
